The American Dream

Today, as we pay tribute to the achievements of American workers and celebrate the unofficial end of summer, I’m reminded of what my own children teach me, each day, about the concept of success.

Kids have it figured out. Read more about my wise guys, over at Hybrid Mom.

  1. Hi Angie,

Just my kind of article! Heartfelt and grounded in humanity. Wish more folks would understand that The American Dream isn’t a formula it’s a feeling. Your children have found it splashing around in the pool. Many of us still remember the feeling from childhood – The consuming machine teachers want us to forget the feeling and replace it with the formula.

And the formula, of course, doesn’t work. It pushes folks further and further away from the feeling.

    Love these lines:
As my sons grow up and forge their own dreams for a “better life,” I hope I can return the favor and pass the lesson back to them. As they venture out into the world in search of happiness and opportunity, I’ll show them this picture and tell them they have everything they need to succeed in this world.

    Thanks! Giulietta
