The grown-up play date. I highly recommend it.

“How old is Miss Sandra?” my 5-year-old asked yesterday during the drive to the water park.

“It’s Andra,” I said. “Say it with me. An-dra.”

“Andra,” he said.

Notice I skipped the question altogether, because Miss Andra is, well, more than 5. Dillon was quite confused about why we were going on a play date with my friend. But he warmed up immediately when we arrived at the park, and Andra handed him a pair of goggles to play with.

I don’t know about you, but I’m a kid at heart. Is there anything better than a trip down the lazy river? Who says you have to be a child to enjoy that?

I had imagined Andra and I would take turns watching my 2-year-old so we could each go down the slide, but he decided to make like a koala bear and cling to me like a tree. So I told Andra and Dillon to go on, and Blake and I took a seat by the pool and waited.

And it was worth every second that passed to watch these happy faces as they crashed into the water. It was Dillon’s first time down the slide, but it’s hard to tell who’s having more fun.

And that makes me feel all warm and fuzzy inside. Even if my son did steal my date.

When is the last time you did something that made you feel like a kid?

Funny story, and the pic is great! Of course, I am going to have to tell Dillon that Miss Andra is not only more than 5, she is almost 1000 years old….in ant years.

Odd thing about feeling like a kid again, I usually feel like I’m about 18 and sometimes probably behave like a 10 year old. What does it for me is amusement parks with great roller coasters . The best in the world is Cedar Point in Sandusky, Ohio. http://www.cedarpoint.com/

When you get on these coasters you absolutely feel like a 5 year old and we try to go there every couple of years just to scare the heck out of ourselves.

I love the Vortex at Carowinds. I’m sure it’s not nearly as crazy as the one in Cedar Point, but I like that it’s a stand up coaster. I always go straight to the front car.

Summertime. Nuthin’ like it in the world.

You’ve made me put my thinking cap on. I’m sorry to say that it’s been a while since I did anything that made me feel like a child. I’m afraid my adult side is overdeveloped, and my child side is feeling neglected. I must get on this detail immediately. Not kidding. I do enjoy being with my grandchildren and seeing the world through their eyes, but I know that’s not exactly what you mean. If you open your morning paper tomorrow and see a 61-year-old lady sliding (naked) down a water slide, blame yourself!

Having children around really brings out the kid in people, and it’s been a long time since I’ve had the opportunity to do that – all this is about to change, however, for which I am eternally grateful!

But, my two dogs bring out the playful side in all of us. We get down on the floor and play silly ball games and hide-n-seek games with them. And I have a feeling they would love the water slide :)

I love it when one of my sisters shares the fun of being a kid with me and my daughters. We were in MN recently to see them and my older sister went down the Log Ride at Mall of America with my daughter, her daughter, and my dad (being pregnant I had to watch on the sidelines with my 2 year old). But it was so worth it. Their faces in the snapshot were priceless!

  5. Ummmm…it was yesterday! We went swimming and I turned flips in the water and practiced my tuck and dive…just like I used to do when I was 8.

True sweetness! Love it. Thanks for sharing.

  7. I cannot believe that is me in that picture. I am so happy you got one. I had so much fun yesterday. Thank you!! xo

  8. Whee! That looks like so much fun–especially in this weather. It’s so much fun to play like no one is watching.
