“Mommy, is that your cheetah suit?” Dillon asked when I walked out of my bedroom, dressed and ready to meet some friends downtown. This was my first happy hour in quite some time, and Dillon does not see his Mommy in heels and makeup that often.
But I can assure you, I was NOT wearing a cheetah suit. I was wearing this tipped ruffle dress from Express. I also wore the dress on my wedding anniversary trip to Las Vegas. The dress is fun and a bit sexy, but Dillon’s comment made me wonder if I should grab the plastic pumpkin out of the pantry and go trick or treating a few months early.
His tone was innocent and curious. He has Superman and Scooby Doo costumes hanging in his closet. So there’s, perhaps, a small chance Mommy has a cheetah suit hanging in hers.
But I don’t.
Dillon was standing at the top of the stairs, waiting for answer. But I couldn’t answer, because I was a) speechless and b) doubled over in laughter. Finally, I caught my breath and said, “No, honey. It’s a dress. And it’s leopard print.”
I tried to tell my husband the story, but I could hardly get it out. Driving to my destination, I laughed out loud every time I thought of it.
I don’t laugh out loud very often. When I write “lol,” I’m usually “loti” (laughing on the inside). So when something makes me crack up, like Dillon’s comment did, I savor the moment. Laughing feels really, really good.
Lucky for me, my two-hour visit with girlfriends provided more tears-streaming-down-my-face laughter. And when I got home that night, I caught this scene from The Proposal on TV. Sandra Bullock and Betty White are just too much, and together they are so funny they rob me of my air supply.
The song “Get Low” appeals to the wanna-be hip hop dancer inside of me, but for the record, I never knew those were the lyrics.
What makes you laugh out loud?

Cute dress, and leopard print is so in now.
Dlisted.com makes me laugh out loud regardless of what mood I start off in. It’s pretty raunchy, and not for everyone, but the writing is excellent, and I can stay “in the know” with current pop culture, as well as enjoy the references to the past.

Thanks for sharing that Angie.
I love to watch the Blue Collar Comedy tour with Jeff Foxworthy and his gang of misfits. To me, life is full of funny things if you take the time to look for them. That is one of the reasons I like to listen to the comedy channel on cable. I prefer comedians that do not have to drop the F bomb every sentence but even folks like Lewis Black has me in stitches. One of the things I love about Lewis Black is that he says it how he sees them. He loves to use Washington politics as fodder for his jokes. Jeff Dunham and his puppets probably rob me of oxygen the quickest. The purple puppet named “Peanut” just kills me. OMG… I also got hooked on the BOH Chronicles many years ago. BOH stands for the Bastard Operator from Hell. The stories are about a Unix Systems Administrator who tortures his users and vendors. You have to be a Nerd of sorts to really get into it. Many years ago I was working for a software company in Houston Texas when I stumbled upon the stories. I remember how I would find myself under my desk (literally) in a fetal position looking for oxygen. OMG….
I saw Jeff Foxworthy live one time. He’s hilarious. The joke about the cat vomiting still makes me laugh.
Angie, my children were always good for those kind of belly laughs when they observed things about the world. Bill Smithem makes me do the same! He knows my laughter spot for silly puns. Once in a while, when he thinks I’ve forgotten the line and when we approach the “speed hump” on the causeway here, he will just blurt out “Sc*#w Fast” and I laugh so hard. Doesn’t matter how many times he’s said it, if it’s not in my mine, it always takes me by surprise and I laugh out loud.
Well, you can see that I can’t type early in the a.m….as that should be mind!
I will never travel over a speed hump the same way again!
The Cheetah Dress just totally cracks me up, I’ve almost forgotten how funny kids can be with the most innocent questions and remarks. The video cracked me up the first time I saw it and made me laugh sitting here in my office with no one else even here yet. I love Sandra Bullock, always have, she is just sooooo funny.
I laugh at loud at silly puns, Muppets snippets, Modern Family, Mary Tyler Moore vids; just crazy stuff across the board. Now I’ll have a new fun line when I think of you writing in your “Cheetah Dress”.
Thank you for watching the video. I know a lot of people have seen it… but it makes me happy to know someone shares my sense of humor. You scared you scared…
And then at the end, when SB says, “So it’s okay if I go?” Stitches.
She is so meek at the end like the crazy Grandma is going to “get her”. Ha
LOL! (For real.) That is hilarious & I can totally picture my own son saying something like that. Nothing like a kid to make you not take yourself too seriously!
Mommy by day. Cheetah Girl by night.
Calvin & Hobbes has always and will ever make me laugh until I hurt myself. I own every comic, and when I am in an especially bad place, I drag them out and thumb through them. Even if I have read one fifty times or more, it can still make me cackle. MTM says I even have a distinct laugh when I am reading them.
And, for the record, I think you should’ve told Dillon that was your cheetah suit. Think of the stories he could tell his friends in the neighborhood.
A missed opportunity indeed! “Why son, yes. Yes, it is.”
I have them all, too. My son likes to casually go through them when he gets bored with all the technology, much to my delight…
This is fantastic! It is a really cute dress and now it will forever remind you of the laughter and Dillon
My four-year-old made me laugh really hard one time when we were having a party with family and friends and my daughter suddenly appeared (literally jumped into the room where we all were) in her Scooby Doo costume and said (very realistically) “Scooby Dooby Doo” and then she ran off. Everyone was laughing and it was a memory I treasure.
My girls are much sillier than me, so they make me laugh often. And they remind me to not be so serious all the time!
It’s amazing to watch their sense of humors develop! How do they learn this stuff?
I wish I knew! If I knew I probably could try to use their skills to pick up a little humor myself
Couldn’t agree with you more about a gut busting laugh! Whatever brings it on, it is a wonderful experience.
The Proposal is one of my all time favorite movies!! The first time I saw it I was with all of my sister-in-laws and nieces(except Sydney) in Dallas, and I was sitting next to Karla(whom you know), and during the scene of the lap dance, she and I almost had to leave the theatre we were laughing so loud! And of course in that wonderful way that it happens, we were infecting each other with more laughing. Every time we would look at each other, we would start all over!! It still warms me on the inside when I think about that shared moment with that very special person.
Thanks for those nice memories today!! Have a great one.
I had forgotten about the lap dance! I just watched it on You Tube. Betty White is hilarious in that scene, too!
Ah, Angie, you would have been my perfect guest on the leopard print sofa I used to own on the west coast. I still miss it! Kids at that age can be so funny and I have many fond memories of cracking up over one remark or other uttered by the various children that have crossed my life path. There is also something about the shared laughter with people who know you well, it’s one of the things I love most about my British friends, their dry and often wicked sense of humor never fails to tickle me. My husband also makes me laugh, he can be very funny. I am not so much into comedy shows on TV, the only one I absolutely adore and that makes me grin and laugh a lot is Frasier. Would love to see a photo of you in your cheetah suit!
Maybe I’ll wear it again on Halloween and snap some photos then!
Thanks for the laugh and glad to hear you had a great time! It’s always funny when our choice in clothing is questioned by the little ones.
Yeah, like the time I picked Dillon up from school in a sweatsuit from The Gap and he asked me (in front of his teacher) why I was still in my pajamas.
It’s even better icing on the cake, laughing like that, after what sounds really frustrating with your hacker. (Sorry about that.) Kids are so awesome that way.
We were all out to eat last weekend, and Andreas, quite out of the blue, slammed his head really hard on the table. Andrew and I both immediately said “Andreas, NO!” But then we started laughing so hard (and yes, crying as well), that I almost had to crawl under the table. Meanwhile, he just stared at us like we were TOTALLY crazy! (Or maybe he was still dizzy from his self-inflicted head but.)
Anyway, rock on cheetah girl! Love it!!!
Oh no! Did he do it on purpose? That’s hilarious. I often laugh at Dillon and Blake at inappropriate times. It shouldn’t be funny… but it is!
Love it. ?
* and that was supposed to be a heart not a question mark – haha – of course I would do that. Of course.
Honeysuckle.
That video has tears running down my cheeks, so obviously I find that as hilarious as you do
Kids can always make you laugh out loud (when you aren’t crying on the inside). My dogs make me laugh too. There are times that we just turn off the tv because they’re so much more fun to watch
I’m so glad to know you have a similar sense of humor. The thought of you watching it and laughing made me laugh some more!
This is the cutest story. I was going to tell you that you should write it down, but you did. I never wrote these little stories down and I regret it.
I remember being at some family gathering years ago. I was wearing a dress and STOCKINGS. That was a rare occasion. My son was about three and he couldn’t stop running his hand up and down my leg. He said, “You’re pretty, Mama.” Never forget it.
That’s my favorite scene from The Proposal. They’re both great.
