about angie & the blog

Me, on the day my husband and I found out we're having a girl

I’m Angie Mizzell, an author, freelance writer, columnist for Lowcountry Parent magazine and leader of a three-ring circus. If you’re looking for a more professional bio (minus the bit about the circus) visit me on LinkedIn.

If you asked me when I was 25 what I thought I’d be doing with my life today (which for the record, I am, um, older than 25) I would have said I’d be the host of an entertainment show in Los Angeles. Access Hollywood. Entertainment Tonight. E! News. But plans changed. I reached a crossroads in my career and my life, and I chose to go another way.

I wrote a memoir about that — about what you do when you get what you want and realize you don’t want it anymore. I’ve talked to so many women who’ve been in similar situations and believed they couldn’t do anything about it.

I did something about it.

But that’s also, in a very large nutshell, what this blog is about. It’s about everything I learned in the process of changing course. I write about the big things: redefining success, the never-ending quest for balance, and finding home.

I believe those big things manifest themselves in the little things, like my day-to-day life raising three children or in those moments that just make me laugh. But be warned. According to my kids, I’m not funny at all.

The readers of this blog are funny. And thoughtful. And wise. And respectful. They have helped me create a community where friends share perspectives, stories and ideas. So if you’re new here, we welcome you. And we want to hear from you.

I have known you were a gem since the day I met you! I am so proud of what you have accomplished and how you seek to do more. Our journeys are similar, we both have found we love to share and help others. I have faith we will one day work together in some capacity. In the mean time, keep up the good work!

Angie, I remember when we were little girls and were in journalism class together. I admire you in so many ways. You are beautiful and so smart, and I am glad that I have the privilage to say I know you. May God always bless you!

Congratulations, my long lost friend. Your boys are precious, including Shawn. I’ve just read some of your stuff. How awesome! You know, I took a leap of faith and started a business so I could stay at home with my two children. My business is providing in home and at work spa treatments for men and women but mostly women. It gives them the relaxation and girl time that they need and teaches them how to take care of their skin and their nerves! The products are fantastic and the opportunity to provide income and inspire is unbelievable. I would love to catch up with you and talk some more about old times and our current journeys. (WIS even did a news story on me a couple of months ago. It was very weird being on the other side of the microphone!)
    Take care, Misty

Angie, It was so good to see you again at C4W. I always enjoy speaking with you. Thank you for sharing this blog with me. I am enjoying it and look forward to visiting often and following your journey. You are amazing. Take care, Anna Lee

  6. Hi Angie,

I am new here. I love the way you have described your mission in this page. Very goal getting, focused and funny. I will be surely following in your footsteps in the future. Hope to learn tons from you.

Just one quick question for starters. I am a father two young children two (age 2.5 and 4). Just want to get some tips on your experience and challenges raising two kids. I know, you did not profess to be a parenting expert. But I guess any parent who had gone through this is an expert, so there is definitely something we can learn.

    Cheers

Hi Jimmy! Thanks for visiting! You might enjoy some of my posts filed under “life with kids” or reading some of my Lowcountry Parent columns (tab at the top of the blog). I enjoy sharing my life experiences and perspectives… it’s what I love most about writing.

  7. Angie, glad I stumbled on your blog. My wife was a tv anchor/reporter, newspaper journalist, radio news director. I took her away from her career when we got married and I was in the Air Force. She gave up a lot. So, your story is very interesting. We have been married now for 25 years. It’s great that you are doing so much with your life!

I look forward to reading more. Check my blog when you get a chance.

BTW, who designed your blog? I love it and want to move to wp.org in the future.
