I don't know how I didn't see it. I'm not sure why the word didn't flash and twinkle and announce itself like the ball in Times Square.
Even though my last post was about abundance, I knew that wasn't it exactly. Then I remembered how I always resist this exercise. The one where you pick one word to guide you through the entire year. Just one word?Oh, the pressure.
But then, it showed up. Subtle, but clear.
It's a daily practice, this discovering and experiencing and living what it means to be free. It's spiritual, it's emotional, it's mental, it's physical.
So with "free" as my compass, here's the big thing I'll be doing this year:
Rewriting my book. For those who may be wondering what's up with that? Haven't you been writing and talking about this book for a few years? Well, yes. And I've received professional guidance on this. And it feels right. It feels good. It feels right on time.
I've done a tremendous amount of work behind the scenes. Learning about the publishing industry. Stretching my book writing skills, trying all kinds of methods, discovering what works and what doesn't. I've even given the book some space to breathe. Now it's time to untangle webs and spin new ones.
I've also spent a lot of energy pondering how the major themes of the memoir fit with my blog. Just ask her and her and her and her. (Thanks for listening!) But now, when I zoom in to the present tense moment of my life and focus on free, the trappings and second-guessing that often come with writing for an audience fall away.
I am a writer. This is a personal blog. And when I come to this space and hit "new post", I'll tell you what's been going on. It doesn't need to be any more complicated than that.
And that feels positively freeing.
One more thing!London-based artist Amelia Critchlow is doing something amazing for the friends of this blog. She's giving away a FREE spot in her next experimental art e-course. ($190 value!) that begins next Monday, January 14. If you'd like to be included in the drawing, just let me know in the comments. Good luck!
